Snowshoe Hare Hunting Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and The Great North Woods of New Hampshire
The Snowshoe Hare hunting seasons of Vermont and New Hampshire open October and close the following March. Here, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and Northern New Hampshire, hare are in abundance creating the opportunity to reach one's daily limit (3/person).
Our hounds are well trained allowing us to spend more time hunting and less time chasing lost hounds. Once jumped by hunter or hound, a hare generally will run in circles allowing the hunter plenty of time to get in front of the dog to prepare for the shot! So the dogs circled the hare and you missed, you need not worry; they will circle it again allowing a chance for redemption!
Hare hunting is a great way to spend time with the family and is a great way to introduce youngsters to the outdoors! Listening to the hounds as they work their way toward you only adds to the excitement and anticipation of bagging a hare. Late fall, if the snow holds off, running white Hare on bare ground is something you need to try! The opportunity to take pure white hare on bare ground sometimes happens again in late March if there is an early thaw.
